Congressional Classroom

The purpose of the Randy Roberts Foundation Congressional Classroom program is to educate and engage high school students in democracy and to foster an interest in public service. Students who are selected after participating in Community Classroom and Capital Classroom, will visit our nation’s Capitol for an inside view of the democratic process. Each year, these high school seniors will be provided with opportunities to witness our government in action, meet with officials and tour points of interest throughout Washington, DC.

Program Overview

Selected students travel to Washington, DC in the fall of their senior year. The trip begins on a Saturday morning flight to Washington, returning the following Wednesday evening. The five-day trip provides students the opportunity to further their knowledge of government and their own social emotional growth. Weekend experiences include sight-seeing around the Capitol and beginning their Mock Congress module. Weekdays the group focuses on meeting with members of Congress, visiting various executive agencies, hearing from a variety of speakers throughout the week and meeting with professionals who work in or around the governmental process. All three branches of government will be highlighted along with United States history.

Since 2011, when the Randy Roberts Foundation assumed the direction of the program, trips have included up to 17 students and 4 chaperones. Over the years, this program has been provided to more than 100 students. All expenses are paid for through the Randy Roberts Foundation and their generous donors.
